No New Posts Morningside Heights

Morningside Heights is an affordable place to live, so is popular with Colombia students and young families. There's very little nightlife, but there are parks, communal gardens, festivals and street fairs. The Cloisters is its most famous landmark. The rent is cheap, but at the far north of Manhattan it's cut off from the rest of the city.

No New Posts Harlem

Harlem is home to the Apollo Theater, Harlem School of the Arts, and El Museo del Barrio, which specialises in Latin American and Caribbean art. There are housing projects and rent is relatively cheap compared to the rest of Manhattan, but costs are rising as it's beginning to gentrify. Harlem has great nightlife and there's always something going on. The mini-neighborhood known as Spanish Harlem isn't to be missed.

No New Posts Upper East Side

The Upper East Side is the most affluent neighbourhood in any borough of New York City. It's said by some to be the safest area of Manhattan, but it can be quiet and the nightlife tends to be tame. It's made up of skyscrapers and brownstones. You'll find residential areas, haute couture shopping, museums, galleries and restaurants.

No New Posts Upper West Side

The Upper West Side is less expensive than the Upper East Side, but it's still affluent. Apartments are mostly small, with a mix of skyscrapers and brownstones. Sidewalk cafes, great shopping, and a friendly community feel make this an amazing place to live. Families and creative types tend to be drawn here.

No New Posts Central Park

Just to the south of Harlem, Central Park cleanly divides the Upper East and West Sides. It's a beautiful verdant oasis in the heart of the city. Among other things you'll find terraces, gardens, fountains, playgrounds, vintage carousels... It's also home to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park Zoo.

Board Information & Statistics

Board Description
Upper Manhattan
Uptown is mainly residential, with a few tourist attractions. The Upper East Side is the city's wealthiest neighbourhood, and the Upper West Side isn't far behind. Harlem, Washington Heights and the rest of northern Manhattan aren't being gentrified at the same rate, but there's plenty to see in these under-visited areas.
