It was just his luck that they had been brought together again? Chase thought it was anything but his luck that he ended up working at the same place Brent did. It was... unfortunate. He wanted to quit and go back to his apartment to cry and maybe cut himself because he still sometimes did that. Not as often as he used to, but still more often than he probably should. Brent was one of the bullies that had stuck out to Chase. He cursed all of them for making his life even worse than his father did, but at least most of the bullies hadn't made him hate himself to the point of contemplating suicide every day of his life. Chase never wanted to wake up because he was afraid that he would wake up to the fists of his father in his face.
Chase thought the comment was a bit creepy, sure. Brent was creepy in general. But when he started staring at Chase, he began to think it was even creepier. Shouldn't Brent be working or something... why was he bothering Chase. He hated it. Chase just wanted to work at his job and forget his past. With Brent here, he was making Chase remember things he didn't want to remember. He kept getting flashes from when he was younger and when Brent teased and made fun of him. Then the images of the other kids got into his mind as well. Before long, the images from his father got into his mind too and he was tempted to run away. He couldn't though. He was at work. He felt his hands start to shake a bit and he didn't know what to say to that. What could he say while his mind was being a dick to him.
He opened his mouth a few times, but couldn't get anything to come out of it. He was freaking out and trying not to show Brent because he would probably just end up being mean again and making it ten times worse. How could he not show something like this. Oh great. What if Chase ended up having a freak attack and then he got fired and shit and that wouldn't be good. He finally looked at Brent with big, panicked eyes. Almost pleading with Brent to lay off a bit. "S-so w-why a-are y-you working he-here. I-I me-mean d-do y-you play some-something?"Chase asked. Not knowing what else to say. That's probably one of the bigger reasons why he was hired here. Because he played drums and knew his shit about them.
Chase looked down to the ground, unable to look at Brent anymore because he was feeling incredibly awkward just like Brent probably wanted. Chase wasn't sure what else to do. He could feel his hands still shaking and he was pretty sure he was sweating a bit more than he should be right now. Maybe he needed to invest in some not white dress shirts for work. That seemed like the better way to go. Brent was even dressed less than Chase was. Maybe he didn't need to wear the tie. His hands were still in his pockets, and he was standing there even more awkward than he thought he could be. Outfit ✦ ✦ ✦ Clicky! It seemed that someone had grown a little heart over the years too. Brent didn't like caring, it was a waste of his time. Often because he never knew the correct way to handle a social situation to be comforting so he didn't see the point in trying. He never used to care at all, he'd been colder than he was now and Brent was wishing he could be like that again because he was torn between going for the vaguely friendly approach or carrying on as he was. Without much thought, he went for the easier option which was obviously the latter, although he knew that he'd feel kind of bad. Chase was looking pretty freaked out. Brent could only blame himself for that. Half of him felt a rush of satisfaction that he was succeeding in his plan but the other half only felt ashamed because this wasn't exactly nice of him to do, but he'd done it, regardless.
Any signs of amusement had left his face, replaced by a slight frown as Brent nibbled at his lip, clearly lost in thought for once in his life. Judging by the way he was being looked at, his co-worker was practically begging for him to back off. Brent was starting the think that he'd have to considering how freaked out Chase seemed to appear already. Really, he was lucky that Brent hadn't been in a bad mood or there would've been no chance of him giving up like this. Well, saying he was 'giving up' was simply being melodramatic; a more accurate term would be 'taking a break'.
He perked up a little at the mention of musical things. Musical things were good. "Oh, yeah. 'Course I do. Piano and bass, and I sing too." Brent nodded. Once he'd attempted to learn guitar but he hadn't liked it much so he'd just stuck with the two instruments he could play well and loved the most (three, if you counted his voice). "You play drums, right?" he asked, finding it less of a challenge to act normally after the change of subject. Brent didn't think he'd ever actually seen Chase play anything but he felt like he'd heard from somewhere that the blue-eyed fellow was a drummer. That was something Brent wasn't cut out for either. He wasn't strong enough to keep up playing the drums for long at all. Brent wasn't a muscly guy, he was practically nothing more than skin and bone.Outfit - - - Clicky! Brent seemed to... relax a bit? Become less creepy? Chase wasn't sure what the change was, but he was sure that he liked it. He didn't want to have to deal with him being a creep even more to him. Chase wanted a normal day for his first day of work. He didn't want to start off bad, and it already kind of seemed like that's what was happening. Chase was still feeling slightly, or a lot, horrible and awkward, but Brent was talking about music now and Chase thought that if that's what the topic was being changed to, then that was far okay with Chase. He wanted to give Brent a small smile, but couldn't manage it with his mind all over the place like it was currently.
Bass, Piano, and sing? Chase thought that was pretty cool, actually. He wasn't sure how Brent knew he played drums, but he was sure that it was from when they had both lived in Upton. Maybe word had gotten around after someone heard Chase playing or something. That could definitely be a possibility. Chase wasn't sure, but either way, Brent knew and it wasn't like Chase was ashamed of it or anything. He was proud of his drumming skills. "Yeah. I do. I've played since I was like 10." Chase said and pulled the corner of his lips up slightly in what was an incredibly awkward and not real looking smile. Chase wasn't sure of the last time he genuinely smiled at someone. He smiled at a book he was reading.
Chase loved to read. If he could, he would spend all his time with his head either in a book, or in his drum set. Those were his two favorite things in the world. That, and watch movies. He loved watching disney classics. Those were the best things in the entire world. If Chase could spend his life doing one or more of those three things, then he would be happy for once. The music store was pretty close though, so he was okay with that. Outfit ✦ ✦ ✦ Clicky! Notes ✦ ✦ ✦ :333 Tagged ✦ ✦ ✦ Brent~ Lyrics ✦ ✦ ✦ You're All I Have by Snow Patrol Credit ✦ ✦ ✦ Connie <3

Music was great because it was kind of just like a friend that was always there for you when you needed it and didn't demand your attention or anything else in return. Well, kind of. If you looked at it from the perspective of a lot of musical artists then they did rely on your support and money. Brent never thought about that aspect though, which was made clear by the amount of shit he'd illegally downloaded over the years. He didn't regret anything.
Brent was surprised that he'd remembered that about Chase. His brain never really was the most reliable source for information of other people but it had just proved that it wasn't completely useless. "That's cool." he replied, unable to think of a better response that wouldn't leave the conversation hanging awkwardly despite Brent feeling like he always managed to let that happen. Mentioning how long he'd been playing for would be the obvious thing to do, although he did want to as he would end up rambling. Or, he had feel like he would anyway. And that would make him feel like an idiot. As far as he could remember, he'd always sung a lot - even more when he started learning piano around the time he began at school. And it wasn't until he was about eighteen that Brent had picked up a bass guitar and shown enough interest in it to then begin mastering it. The piano was always going to be his favourite instrument though, very closely followed up by synths/keyboards. They were his babies.
When he found himself fighting the urge to go back to being either an anti-social grump or insulting knobhead, Brent tried his best not to. His emotions were conflicting each other in their usual way, making it difficult for him to stick with one sort of general mood. He focused of Biffy, who were also his babies. His hairy, little, Scottish babies of hotness and musical heaven. A tiny smile tugged at his lips as his mind tuned back in properly to the music playing. Keeping a straight face was difficult when listening to your favourite band that you just so happened to love more than anything else in this world (excluding pianos).Outfit - - - Clicky! Now it was to the point where Chase didn't know what to say, what Brent said wasn't enough for him to say something in return to. He was stumped as to what he did now. Chase was so socially awkward he wasn't sure if he was supposed to continue the conversation, or just kind of end it because he had nothing better to say or anything. He didn't want to seem like an idiot on his first day of work. Chase stuffed his hands farther down into his pocket and hoped that Brent would either say something else, or not expect Chase to say something else because that didn't seem to be happening.
Instead of worrying about whether or not he needed to talk and say something, Chase focused on the music that was playing in the background. He recognized it. Good song too. Chase leaned against the counter, not looking at Brent or anyone else because that would just make him feel awkward again, before he started tapping along with the song the way he would if he had drums in front of him. He wasn't sure what else to do. Work so far... really boring and awkward. He would ask Brent what he did to pass the time during work, but he didn't want to get yelled at again or something for whatever it was he got yelled at for. Chase was pretty sure it was fine if he just... didn't say anything. Maybe next time he worked he would bring a book and see if he could end up reading it while he was working. Chase loved reading and right now he was reading a really good series that he wanted to continue, so he was going to. He actually hadn't wanted to put the book down to come to work, but knew he had to. Reading was his life apart from drumming and music. If it were possible to have two lives, one would be music, and the other would be fictional characters. Outfit ✦ ✦ ✦ Clicky!
