He had been gone far too long. Home. Home was only a few minutes away and his stomach was lunging with excitement. Home was where the heart was. Home was where his family and wife were. Home was everything to him and he was itching to be back. Three long years locked up in a different countries jail dealing with abuse and torture daily had at one point made him feel as if he really was going to be dead. However, here he was three years later sitting on a bus with his head up against the window on his way back to Queens, New York. The place he called home. A place where he would be once again safe and out of the torture, he faced every day. Where people would not be attempting to harm him. It would be an adjustment but by god was he ready for it.
He could not wait to open that door and see his wife's beautiful face. He could not wait to wrap his arms around her in a tight embrace. He could not wait to see his brother, sister, and parents all smiling about his return. He couldn't wait to have a nice warm home cooked meal made for him by his wife or mother. Both who had two very different cooking methods but the boy could never decide whose cooking he preferred more. He couldn't wait to sleep in a nice bed and actually get a decent nights rest without worrying about someone coming into his room in the middle of the night with a knife or gun to harm someone. He couldn't wait to let the New York's breeze gently stroke his cheek and welcome him back into America.
As the bus pulled up to, a stop he felt his heart do a small lunge and his head filled with mixed emotions. How would everyone react to his return? He assumed happy and delighted, he assumed with warm embraces but he also knew three years was a long time away. He also knew that at one point everyone in this world presumed him and the other men dead. Cole had yet to contact anyone to tell them he was coming home. He had attempted to call his parents at one point but his fingers had trembled and that was when he decided upon just showing up. He decided it'd be best to just take a deep breath and walk right up to their doors and be like hey family! he had a feeling his mom might faint at the sight of her son but he really could not pluck up the courage to explain everything over the phone. He just wanted to see her in person. He wanted to see his wife in person. The most important people in his life he wanted to see them first before a stupid phone call...he wanted to be there when they found the news...live and in person, not just some phone call they may presume a prank.
The names of the soldiers that had survived were not yet released. They had decided to wait until the men were able to have time with family and friends first as to ward of press hunting them down. Tomorrow...tomorrow would be when the world knew his name, and he was back from the dead, but right now he was still an anonymous to the public eye. It was only a total of eight men because two had died in the escape, and about five more had died in the three years of being gone from starvation, and killed.
Taking his first few steps off the bus Cole let that New York breeze caress his face as he breathed in the air. A smile lit up his face as he got into a Taxi they already called up for him to talk him home. A small limp was in his walk, and he had a few battle scars from his time locked up but the boy was still in decent condition for everything he had to endure these past few years. Being taken home, he decided that he'd not let the war, the deaths, ruin anything the moment he got to the Wakefield place. He'd just let himself be surrounded in the warmth of being home.
As much as he loved his parents, the taxi took him directly to his old home. The home he lived with Kacey in for almost three years before he was kidnapped. He knew she still lived their upon some small research and his heart yearned to be delivered back to her first before his parents. If all went according to plan, he was hoping to have a few small hours with her before heading over to his parents’ house, hand in hand with his wife, because he knew the moment he walked through those doors, the moment he wrapped his arms around her he'd never want to let her go.
As the taxi pulled up to his house he slowly got out, admiring the place he called home. Managing his way up the steps to the door, he took a heavy, steadying breath and knocked on the door three times.

The place Kacey had called home hadn't felt like home to her for a long time. After Colton had died it was a big empty space where she had spent much of her time alone with some sort of alcohol bottle in hand. To think several years ago she was living the dream life, she had married the guy she loved, they had their own place, she was expecting a child and it all just seemed perfect her life was one you would have seen in the movies. Most of them had happy endings though didn't they? Kacey's story didn't have a happy ending or at least so it seemed. Shortly after finding out she was pregnant Colton had died on the navy ship he was on and she hadn't even had a chance to tell him yet. The news came as a shock for about the first month she didn't cry and went on as if things were completely normal, denial does a funny things to you. It was about a month or so after his death that it really hit her hard that he wasn't coming home and the child she carried inside of her would grow up without knowing his or her father. Due to the stress she was going through Kacey had some complications with her pregnancy and though the doctors tried everything they could in the end she had a miscarriage and lost the baby.
When the realization that he was gone and that she had lost her baby it all hit her at once and all she could do was go down hill from there. As depression struck her she found comfort in alcohol with many nights spent crying her eyes out in her living room sitting on the floor drinking and listning to sad love songs. On some what better days you might of found her at the bar drinking and telling her sob story to some poor stranger that just wanted to drink his beer in peace. The poor girl was a wreck.
If it hadn't been for Landon who had shown up as her knight in shinning armor she probably would have been in the same place she was three years ago or probably drank herself to death. He had been her best friend growing up and had been there for her when she was at her worst. Helping to get her the help she needed to become sober and being a shoulder she could cry on. Eventually moving in with her because there was no way Kacey could afford the house they were living in with a waitresses salary.
The house was once scattered with pictures of Colton and Kacey and their families and friends now the pictures covering the walls were of Kacey and Landon and their adventures threw life together from the past couple of years and as kids. It was a well lived in place you could defiantly tell kacey didn't live alone. People had told her taking down all the pictures and taking off her wedding ring would help the mourning process and at first it didn't, it made her feel emptier but as time went on and she was able to replace them with more happy memories it got easier. She didn't get rid of all of their photos though next to her bed was a picture of their wedding day. They looked so happy together in the picture that kacey couldn't bare to bring down all of them so that was the one she chose to keep. In front of the picture was a small black box that contained her wedding ring, she may have took it off but she would never get rid of it.
Kacey had spent the whole day cleaning the house. When she woke up this morning she had a great feeling like something was going to happen today and it had put her in a good mood. Convincing her to clean up the house thoroughly while listning to crappy pop music that she never would admit to actually liking some of it. Thinking she heard a knock on the door she turned the music down which was probably to loud anyways, and with the broom in hand walked to the front door.
Turning the knob she opened the door and took a step outside before actually looking at the person in front of her I'm sorry it seems like you've caught me at a bad..... she started to say with a small laugh until her gaze fixed on the persons face above her. She was dressed in some jeans that had some rips in them and a old gray shirt with her hair put up in a messy bun, looking pretty much like she just woke up. The feeling that she felt at that moment was something that she could not describe. The shock felt like some one had just dropped a house on her and she was completely out of breath. Kacey didn't deal with shock and loss very well, first came denial and then came realization. Colton..... but... how.... when... what... I she said barely able to form words, they just weren't coming to her and to be honest she probably didn't even realize what she had just said. She just stood there speechless most people would have enveloped the person in their arms but Kacey had spent the last 3 years trying to move on from her dead husband to have him show up here like a ghost was not what she was expecting when she had woke up in the morning.
That's it she had been drinking again because Colton was dead and she didn't believe in ghosts, so yes she had been drinking and now she was imagining things. It wouldn't have been the first time that she had seen Colton while she was drunk. No she was perfectly sober. Without saying another word she hurried forward wrapping her arms around him wanting to feel that he was real and not some figment of her imagination.

The minute the doorknob turned to open, he felt his heart sink into the bottom of his stomach. He felt the nerves boil up inside him. It was just then that he realized the severity of the length he had been gone. It had been three years what if she had moved on? What if these past three years she had completely forgotten about him and moved on? What if she was married and behind that door was going to be a little kid without his bright red hair, and a husband sitting on his couch watching his television. What if she no longer loved him? What if she hated him? What if the expectations he had been dreaming of for the past three years didn't live up to his standards? What if she slammed the door in his face? Granted it was not his fault he had been gone for so long but what if she blamed him? The what if's started to spiral in his mind like a hurricane destroying its home.
Parts of him knew he was being silly. Even if she had moved on…even if there was a new man in her life he doubted she’d hate him. He doubted that she’d ever be the type of woman that slammed the door in his face. Yet sometimes people changed and he slightly feared that when the door opened the Kacey he left behind wouldn’t be the same Kacey behind that door. But he knew he’d love her still the same because she was what kept him going these past few years…and she’d always be his Kacey. She’d always be the woman he loved.
Then the door fully swung open and he saw her face. His heart melted into a soft puddle of goo. There stood the most beautiful woman he had ever laid his eyes on. The woman that captured his heart when he was only sixteen years young. The woman that had held his heart for the past eight years of his life and she stood in front of him just as beautiful as he imagined her at sixteen years old. She looked like a bundle of mess with her hair tied up, and was in no fancy get up but it never tinted Cole's vision of the woman. She was the most beautiful girl in the world in his eyes and even if she stood here with no hair, and worn out clothes he would still be declaring her just the same. "Kacey..." he breathed out softly, taking her all in.
He could sense her hesitance. He could sense her confusion but it was the last thing on his mind at this moment. All he wanted was to wrap his arms around her in a tight embrace but he made no sudden movements as he let her register that he was standing there before her first and foremost. Then finally the girl wrapped her arms around him and he found himself home. He found himself home in her arms and an inaudible cry escaped his plump lips as he took her in again. His arms wrapped around her tightly as he pulled her as close to him as he could. Never wanting to let the girl go again. He had been dreaming about holding her in his arms for the past three years never expecting to be able to do such a thing again, thinking it would always be an unreachable dream. However, here he was three years later holding her close to him yet again.
He breathed her in as he made no movement to let her go. She would have to be the one to let go first because he could not see himself prying himself away from her anytime soon. His head moved to the side of hers as he kissed her head with full force as he finally uttered out the words, "I've missed you so damn much."

After three years Kacey was just getting realizing that colton was never coming back and there was nothing she could do about it besides get on with her life. There was no one she wanted to be with more then colton, but it didn't do her or any one else she loved any good by drinking her life away. These last years were filled with pain and sadness, and Anger and hatred at Colton for leaving her like he did. With that bottle in her hand she would spend the whole night yelling and screaming at a picture of is his and then end up falling asleep with the same picture frame tucked in close to her chest because it was the only way she could hold him close now. Of course she didn't really hate colton or mean anything bad she said about him, After all isn't False Anger one of the stages of grief? Kacey had changed a lot since Colton had left, she was still as lovable and careing as ever and always put a smile on her face when out in public. But if you took a close look you could see that the smile she wore was a fake to cover up the emptiness Colton had left her with. However it was nothing that couldn't be changed with time and good people to help her get through it. Getting closer to her old self every day, happier every day. Yes, life was starting to get better for Kacey and Colton showing up on her doorstep very much alive was just enough proof to her that life wasn't always as bad as it seemed. But what about colton? Had what he been through changed him at all? She was the only one who had sent a loved one off to the Army... wasn't the only one left behind. A few of her friends had watched as their boyfriend's, fiancée's, and husbands left as well. However most of them came back. They all seemed so happy now like nothing had changed, everything was back to normal for them. But then again she had heard that some come back totally changed, after all it was a dangerous job. So what if he had changed? What had happened to him over the last three years to make every one assume he was dead? What had he seen....What did he have to go through? These questions kept running through her mind. Finally grasping the fact that here he was very much alive and holding her, her emotions were everywhere. Bursting out in tears she buried her head in his chest, loudly sobbing and not letting go of him in fear he might just disappear. There was not a word that she could say right now, not yet. No words could describe the good but overwhelming feelings she was feeling at this very minute. The two of them probably looked like quite the site standing right there her loudly sobbing. Most of the neighbors in the area were new and didn't have a clue who Colton was, if they had noticed anything they were probably quite curious about what was going on. After while Kacey was able to calm down, her tears subsided and her sobs quieted down. Her grip on Colton had just grown tighter, it was amazing she wasn't squeezing the poor boy to death yet. Looking up in coltons face she was almost able to form a smile. Colton, I've missed you so much she was able to repeat as she finally let go of him and started to wipe away her tears. Collecting herself up she was able to ask him the question that would soon be on every ones mind... How? We all thought you were gone she said. Her face puffy and red from all the crying, wich still hadn't quite stopped yet. What Happened? she asked not even thinking about the fact that he may not even be ready to talk about what had happened. And in all honesty she wasn't expecting the full story just the short version to explain how it was possible he was alive and just a few inches away from her. A funny look of realization had come across her face. You must be Hungry, did you even get any food over there? You look so thin she said. Kacey was one of those people that always cooked a lot of food, would share it with any one and always thought people were underweight especially most men who didn't have any one to cook for them. She was like that with all of her guy friends, especially Landon. Wrapping her arms around him she kissed his cheek one last time before turning around and opening the door. Wanting to take this inside as all of their neighbors didn't need to know everything Colton would have to say. Plus it was probably a bit selfish she wanted him all to herself, she felt like out there every one was there watching and listning. COLTON WAKEFIELD im so sorry this took so long to get up its just been one thing after another. This next week I should be on a little bit more but we are finishing up the final details in selling are old house. After this weekend though I should be back in full swing!

A picture of the two had been embroiled into his wallet. That wallet that he managed to keep with him on the Navy ship. Every time he opened that leather her face would appear beaming up at him. It had been slightly washed out from sea but he could still see her smile. He could still see her brown eyes beaming up at him and her flawless face. It was what had kept him going all three years it was without a doubt that Kacey Wakefield had been his definition of hope. She was what kept him going and she was his will to live. He wanted to see her again and hold her in his arms even if it was just for one last time. He was thankful that it wasn't going to be one last time because he was now very much safe and alive, and well. As well as he could possibly be anyways. Many dreams he had involved himself in deep injuries and on his last breath of life and she was there at his bedside. She would hold his hand, they'd share one tender kiss goodbye, and she'd rest herself in his arms and he'd hold her until he could no longer breath out life. It was rather morbid but it was all he could picture in such a dark place. It was his only dream to die with her at his side. It was unimaginable that he now had his whole life ahead of him...with her. With the love of his life.
He knew better than to assume that he was free from death. Oh, he knew better. But, he promised himself that he would forever never take anything for granted again. Holding her in his arms was one of the greatest gifts he could ever receive. As she pulled away from him he felt the warmth immediately leave his body and he wanted to do nothing more than pull her back to him. He however restrained himself figuring there would be plenty of time for that. As the questions began to unfold, he ran a hand through his thick red hair, shaking his head. "I thought I was gone too" she was the one person he'd be completely honest with. She was the one person he had no problem answering questions for. She deserved it...the media didn't. His family did too but they would get the buttered down truth. Kacey she would get the full truth.
"I was captured." he started off slowly, "When the ship sunk we didn't all just drown there had been a smaller ship ready to take some of as hostage. About ten of us were taken prisoners and thrown into a jail..." he left it at that. If she asked more, he would answer but he had always been a man that was very quick to the point, blunt and straight-forward. A man of few words. "We eventually managed to escape." pausing, "I didn't think we would but by god I hoped we would..."he lifted his hand up and gently caressed her cheek wiping away some of the tears that were still flowing from her eyes from earlier, "You were what kept me going, Kacey. Coming home to you was what made me survive. I don't think i'd have been able to if it wasn't for you. You were my hope. You were my strength." he gave her a weak smile, it was about as sentimental as the man ever had been other than the night he asked her to marry him.
Following her into their home he chuckled ever so slightly, and let a full out joking grin spread across his face, "Well, I could eat." really...he hadn't had anything other than crackers, water and bread for the past three years. He. Really. Could. Eat.
